A Princess Cruises sailing has been delayed after Ruby Princess crashed into a dock at the port of San Francisco.

The ship had been due to start a 10-day round-trip Inside Passage with Glacier Bay National Park cruise on Thursday (6 July) afternoon when the accident happened.

According to ship tracking site MarineTraffic, at the time of writing, the ship is still docked at the port of San Francisco.

Princess Cruises said it was discussing clearance with the US Coast Guard for Ruby Princess to resume sailing.

“The safety of our guests and crew remain our top priority, and Ruby Princess will depart once the ship is deemed by US Coast Guard as fit to sail,” it added.

Princess said it would provide a goodwill gesture of compensation to affected passengers ‘once the full effect of the necessary changes was known’.

Ruby Princess was returning to its homeport after a 10-day Inside Passage with Glacier Bay National Park cruise when the collision happened at 6:05am (local time) on Thursday.

Pictures on social media show a big dent in the ship’s stern following the accident.

Cruise Hive reports 3,328 passengers were on the ship at the time of the collision.

On Twitter, Princess confirmed there were no injuries and ‘at no time were any guests or crew in danger’.

Ruby Princess made unexpected contact with the dock at Pier 27,” the line tweeted. “The ship is safely alongside and disembarkation is complete.”
