PSG striker Lionel Messi ‘suspended for unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia’

Paris Saint-German striker Lionel Messi has reportedly been suspended for two weeks without pay after travelling to Saudi Arabia, where he is a tourism ambassador.

French news publication L’Equipe said the Argentinian World Cup winner took the two-day trip even though he hadn’t been given permission to skip training.

Saudi’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb tweeted a welcome message to Messi on Monday and on Tuesday posted photos of the player and his family visiting the country.




Messi will reportedy miss PSG’s Ligue 1 matches against Troyes and Ajaccio, but he is expected to return for the match against Auxerre on 21 May.

The French club has decided not to extend his contract in the summer, according to reports.
