A Royal Caribbean cabin steward has been arrested on multiple charges of putting hidden cameras in passenger staterooms.

The man, named as Arvin Joseph Mirasol, aged 34, from the Philippines, was arrested on 3 March and admitted to placing hidden cameras in a number of staterooms on Symphony of the Seas, which is currently operating out of Florida on Caribbean cruises.

He was detained by ship security after a young female passenger, travelling with her mother and sister, found a camera under the sink in their cabin bathroom.

A court affidavit said law enforcement officers took away several items of equipment, including a mobile phone, camera, SD card and USB stick. They found ‘numerous videos of naked females undressing’. One showed him installing a camera in a guest stateroom.

The court filing added Mirasol said he’d been placing cameras in bathrooms since he started working on Symphony of the Seas in December 2023. He allegedly admitted to moving them on different sailings, depending on who was in the cabin.

He also admitted to entering rooms while guests were in the shower, hiding under the bed and recording them.

When the ship docked in Fort Lauderdale at the end of the cruise on Sunday, he was arrested.

He faces seven charges and will stay in Broward County Jail without bond until his court case.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean said: “We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behaviour. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities.”
