Ryanair has been ordered to pay €1,836 in damages to two police officers after they were prevented from boarding a flight with their weapons.
Despite having completed the necessary paperwork, the on-duty officers were turned away at the gate for the flight from Tenerife.
Ryanair agreed to pay the pair €1,436 damages, but refused an additional €400 for ‘moral damages’, claiming the amount wasn’t justified, according to Canarian Weekly.
However, a court in Madrid ruled in favour of the police officers and increased the damages Ryanair must pay from €1,436 to €1,836.
Both police officers had to buy new tickets to Madrid the next day ‘given the need to reach their destination because of their profession’, the court heard.
The court said the officers suffered ‘physical and mental fatigue’ from having to look for new flights and ‘anxiety’ due to the ‘unforeseen expenses, losing a day upon arrival at their destination and having to spend a night in a different city’.
Ryanair now has to pay the full amount.
