The Met Office is warning that Storm Agnes could disrupt flights and ferries to and from the north and north west of the UK, as well as in Ireland, later this week.
The storm is expected to sweep up from the south-east of England, affecting the midlands and the north and north-west of the UK on Wednesday.
It is likely to bring winds of up to 80mph in exposed areas.
Flights from several UK airports could be affected, including Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Cardiff.
Ferries from Holyhead could also be disrupted.
Issuing a yellow severe storm warning, the Met Office said: “A spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast through Wednesday, with a small chance that they could be significantly disruptive.”
It said longer journey times or road, rail, air and ferry cancellation are ‘likely’.
“There is a small chance that injuries and a danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown into sea fronts, coastal roads and properties, with a chance of some minor flooding of coastal roads,” it added.
The yellow severe weather warning is due to last from 10am on Wednesday till 7am on Thursday.
