Norwegian Cruise Line has pulled a transatlantic cruise – 22 months before it was due to depart.
The line reportedly said it axed the 12-night sailing on Norwegian Breakaway because the ship is now going to a different shipyard to undergo maintenance work.
Cruisehive reports the change was made to ‘better facilitate the ship’s regular maintenance and technical upgrades’.
The sailing, starting on 7 February 2025, was a repositioning cruise from Miami to Barcelona. The work had been scheduled to take place before Norwegian Breakaway (pictured) started its European season.
Affected passengers have been told of the cancellation and the monies paid have been automatically refunded back to the original form of payment, according to Cruise Hive.
The line has returned future cruise credits (FCCs) back to passengers who used FCCs.
It has also given passengers an additional FCC with the value of 10% of the cruise fare as a gesture of goodwill. This must be used on any scheduled sailing with NCL departing before 31 December 2025.
It comes a day after Cunard was forced to cancel its transatlantic cruise on the day of its departure.
The line said it was doing ‘everything possible’ to provide support and make alternative travel arrangements.
