Flights to and from Sicily’s Catania airport were cancelled or diverted today following the eruption of Mount Etna.
The airport closed in the early hours of this morning after ash plume spread across the eastern part of the island.
Some flights, including easyJet flights from London Gatwick and London Luton, were diverted to Comiso airport in southeast Sicily.
Other flights, including other easyJet departures from Gatwick, Bristol and Edinburgh, and a British Airways flight from Gatwick were cancelled, along with easyJet and Wizz afternoon departures from Catania to Gatwick
Ryanair flights were diverted from Catania to Trapani in the west of Sicily.
