A fire onboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas caused a loss of power when the ship was docked at Costa Maya, Mexico, on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the cruise line said the fire was isolated to a crew area and quickly extinguished by the onboard team, with no injuries reported.

The spokesman told 7News Miami: “The ship experienced a small fire (isolated to the crew area) and experience a brief loss of power while docked at Costa Maya, Mexico; back-up power kicked in immediately and teams restored the main systems; all necessary safety procedures were taken and the team were able to quickly extinguish the fire; safety of our passengers and crew are always our top priority; thankfully there were no injuries.”

Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, is on a seven-day roundtrip from PortMiami, which departed on Saturday and is due to call at Cozumel today.
