A resort on the Costa Brava is introducing fines of up to €1,500 for anti-social behaviour from stag and hen parties.

Individuals in Platja d’Aro could be fined up to €750 for being out in public in only underwear, for wearing penis costumes, or parading sex dolls through the streets.

A city hall spokesperson told news outlet CNN that the highest fines would be issued for anti-social behaviour which causes more of a disturbance but did not give further details.

The new laws, which also ban going shirtless or wearing nothing more than a bikini in urban areas away from the beach, will be introduced towards the end of this month.

Platja d’Aro, about 60 miles from Barcelona, is described by Jet2holidays as a ‘chic resort’ with a ‘cool, cosmopolitan feel’.

However, the town’s Mayor Maurici Jiménez said rowdy behaviour from stag and hen parties was ‘impacting on the town’s coexistence’.

Local police chief David Puertas told CNN that recently a groom was tied to a lamp post while his friends sang and played loud music late at night, keeping residents awake.

Extra police have been drafted in to the resort for the summer, boosting numbers from 48 to 60. They will have the power to issue penalties to those breaking the new rules, but these can be appealed.
