The south coast of the Dominican Republic is expected to be battered by Tropical Storm Franklin today and tomorrow.
Winds of up to 70mph are possible and rainfalls of up to 15 inches are expected across the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which also includes Haiti.
The National Hurricane Center is warning of ‘significant and potentially life-threatening flash flooding’.
In an update to its travel advice for the Dominican Republic, the Foreign Office (FCDO) warned that the storm might develop into a hurricane.
The FCDO should follow the advice of local authorities and tour operators, ‘including any evacuation orders’.
Puerto Rico is also expected to feel the effects of the storm, with up to six inches of rain possible on Tuesday and Wednesday.
