Threatened strikes at Edinburgh Airport have been called off after bosses offered staff a 12% pay rise plus a one-off payment of £1,000 each.

Unite the union said 96% of its 275 members, almost half of all the workers at Edinburgh Airport, had accepted the offer.

The union had previously threatened a series of summer walkouts after staff were offered an 11% pay rise along with a £1,000 cost-of-living payment.

If the strikes had gone ahead, it would have affected airport security, terminal operations, search areas and flight processing.

The 12% pay rise is comparable to an offer recently accepted by Gatwick Airport staff, who also received a £1,500 one-off payment.
