Riviera Travel’s appearance on Channel 5’s Cruising with Susan Calman has proved a hit for both ratings and bookings.
Two of the most recent episodes of the hit show were onboard Riviera’s ship Douro Elegance.
The first episode, which aired on 26 January, was watched live by almost 900,000 viewers. Its consolidated number, which adds in viewers who watched it on catch-up over the following seven days, topped 1.1m.
The second episode, which aired on February 2, was equally popular and overnight ratings confirmed it was also the most watched show on Channel 5 that day.
Online booking figures for the Douro doubled following the first show, while trade bookings for Riviera’s Douro cruises were up 54%, with the Douro being Riviera’s highest-booked holiday region.
During both episodes, Susan travelled along the Douro River, visiting destinations including Porto, Mateus Palace, Salamanca and Almeida. She was also filmed using the guest facilities such as the onboard restaurant, sun deck, lounge and bar.
Riviera Chief Executive Phil Hullah said: “The Douro was a spectacular filming location and we hope it has further opened people’s eyes to all the benefits of a European river getaway.”
