Fourteen workers have been arrested on suspicion of stealing from passengers’ checked-in luggage at Tenerife’s biggest airport.
Police began an investigation after a rise in complaints from passengers who said items had gone missing from their luggage at Sur-Reina Sofía de Tenerife.
Officers seized items worth almost €2 million (£1.72m) from workers, which they believe to have been stolen as bags were being placed in the aircraft hold, Sky News reports.
The hoard included more than £11,000 in cash, 22 mobile phones and electronic devices, 120 items of jewellery and 29 luxury watches.
A video posted by police showed a ring that had been hidden inside a pair of headphones.
Police say they are currently investigating 22 other workers at the airport.
