Thailand’s Government is reportedly considering extending visa-free stays to 90 days for some European countries including the UK.

Currently UK holidaymakers can visit the country for up to 30 days without the need for a visa, so this move would triple the visa-free duration.

According to reports in the Bangkok Post, Prommin Lertsuridej, an aide to Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, said in an interview that the Government is discussing the plan, although no firm details have been given.

The report added that in another bid to draw tourists to the country, Thailand will host around 3,000 events such as music concerts, marathons and other cultural festivities over the next year.

Another local publication, The Nation, said that if the extension were to go ahead it would likely cover the UK, Germany, Scandinavian nations, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Earlier this year Thailand reduced the time Brits could remain in the country visa-free from 45 to 30 days.
