Havila Voyages has received a licence from the Central Bank of Ireland to enable the financing and delivery of its next two ships.

Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux are now due to start operations for Havila Voyages in June.

The European Union sanctioned Havila’s financier Russian company GTLK following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.

The line was forced to look for alternative financing options because the sanctions prevented GTLK from financing its ships.

In addition to Ireland, Havila said it has also applied for licences in the UK and the USA to ‘ensure both British and American investors can participate in the financing’.

Chief Executive Bent Martini said: “The situation we are in is very complex and demanding. Fortunately, the license from Ireland is now in place, which enables us to legal finance our ships.

The licenses are crucial for our facilitators to be able to work freely in relevant markets for us to settle our debts to the original lender to a frozen account according to the sanction regulations and releasing the security in the vessels.”

Havila Polaris (pictured) will begin cruise operations on 12 June and Havila Pollux will start on 18 June.

Both Havila Capella and Havila Castor are already operating sailings along the Norwegian coast.
