A passenger died on Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady on Sunday evening after she fell from her balcony onto another person several decks below.

The ship had only just left PortMiami when the tragedy happened.

Valiant Lady immediately returned to port, where the deceased woman was taken away by ambulance in the early hours of Monday morning.

The other passenger was not badly hurt, according to reports.

Valiant Lady had set sail on a six-night cruise to Roatan, Costa Maya and Bimini at 6pm on Sunday evening when the woman fell, according to CBS News, from Deck 14 onto one of the ship’s lower decks.

Following the incident, the itinerary was altered to skip Roatan and a second port, Costa Maya, was also skipped due to bad weather, but Cozumel in Mexica has been added.

In a statement, Virgin Voyages confirmed a passenger had fallen from their balcony. It added: “This passenger went over their balcony onto a lower deck, and despite receiving immediate medical attention, has passed away.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and our hearts and thoughts are with this person’s loved ones.

“The woman’s body was taken away by an ambulance, and the ship resumed sailing.”

One passenger tweeted that they had been offered credit towards a future cruise.
