Travel agency boss Nicola Park told a TV audience that TUI boss Sebastian Ebel was talking rubbish when he claimed earlier this week that the era of £44 flights was over.

Nicola, who runs Seaside Travel in County Durham, was being interviewed on Channel 4 by journalist Steph McGovern, host of the recent Travel Gossip Awards.

When Steph asked Nicola (pictured left) if it was true that the ‘golden age of cheap holidays is over’, Nicola said TUI’s boss ‘needs to come and sit in a travel agent’.

She added: “To be honest that’s a typical male comment in the travel industry that. It’s an utter load of ….

“There are cheap deals to be had.”

The German TUI CEO told German media earlier this week that demand for flights was outstripping supply and in some destinations, such as Greece, there were ‘virtually no beds left’ for this summer.

He said: “You won’t get these cheap offers for marketing campaigns like you use to, with occasional exceptions.”

But Nicola said: “We have still got some absolute bargains for last minute.”

However, she said customers were looking for value for money rather than cheap packages, and she advised viewers to book ahead for 2024 and 2025 and pay off the cost a little at a time.

Best value destinations this year include Thailand, Bali and Gozo, said Nicola, citing a Jet2holidays’ package to Gozo for a family of four in mid July, flying from Glasgow, from £2,300 self-catering.
