Holidaymakers are being warned of flooding and strong winds in Malta and Gozo as well as in Italy as Storm Daniel rips across the Mediterranean.

In an update issued today, the Foreign Office said: “Adverse weather conditions, including flooding and strong winds, are affecting Malta and Gozo.

“The situation can change quickly and disruption is likely to roads and public transport, including the ferry service to Gozo.”

Tourists are being advised to monitor local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities.

Shower, thunder and even hail are also likely in Malta until Saturday, according to the Met Office.

Storm Daniel is also likely to cause severe weather in the coming days in the south of Italy, particularly in Calabria and Sicily.

It has already caused severe flooding in Greece, on the island of Skiathos and also in the city of Volos and the Mount Pelion area of the Greek mainland.
