Former Cheapflights CEO Hugo Burge died at his home on Wednesday, aged 51.

He founded the investment firm Howzat Media in 2000, and later invested in – and became CEO of – Cheapflights.

When Cheapflights bought travel comparison site Momondo in 2011, Hugo became CEO of the combined Momondo.

In 2017, the Momondo Group was bought by Priceline Group for $550 million.

Hugo was also an investor in start-up Trivago, but his investment firm exited Trivago in 2012, when it had a valuation of $1 billion.

A statement released by Marchmont House, which he owned, said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugo Burge who died suddenly at home on Wednesday 10 May.

“Hugo’s kindness, intelligence, curiosity and belief in a better world made him an inspiration to us all. He was a beloved son and a great friend. We will miss him terribly.

“His family ask for privacy at this time. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced in due course.”
