Travel firms have been urged to complete a ‘state of the sector’ survey by the Future Travel Coalition amid the cost-of-living crisis three years on from the start of the pandemic.

The coalition said it would use the findings to determine its future government lobbying activity. Businesses which are members of the 15 associations, trade bodies and consortia in the coalition can complete the survey.

The survey covers latest booking trends and how they compare to 2019 pre-Covid levels and must be completed 21 April.

ABTA said joint lobbying activity is ‘strengthened’ if all coalition members responded and gave evidence about how their businesses were coping.

Luke Petherbridge, ABTA Director of Public Affairs, said: “While we’ve seen a decent return to travel following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, travel businesses are still having to navigate a complex set of circumstances.

“There are issues born out of the pandemic, such as recruitment and high levels of debt, and those from the UK no longer being part of the European Union.

“These are mixed with wider economic uncertainty and higher operating costs.”

He added: “So, it’s important government and politicians from across all parties understand what is happening with travel businesses right now and why supporting them is so important for the UK economy.”

The coalition is made up of 15 members including ABTA, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), Cruise Lines International Association UK & Ireland (CLIA) and Advantage Travel Partnership.
