Travelodge has fast-tracked upgrades to 25 hotels in key staycation destinations in time for the peak summer period.

Among those to undergo the transformation to the group’s new ‘budget-luxe’ design are the chain’s two biggest hotels, the 463-room Covent Garden and the 408-room Kings Cross Royal Scot London properties.

Other upgraded properties are in popular areas such as Cheltenham, Ipswich, Oxford, Newport and Southampton.

The upgrade includes a contemporary restaurant called the Bar Café, which has dedicated spaces for guests to work, relax and socialise.

A number of sustainable initiatives include carpet made from recycled fishing nets and plastic bottles, low energy lighting installed throughout the hotel with motion sensing controls and aerated showers and taps in the bathrooms.

Travelodge unveiled the budget-luxe design in April 2022 and says it is the group’s most radical transformation to date.

Phase 1 of the rollout was completed at the start of this year, with 65 existing hotels upgraded, and three new-build properties opening with the new design.
