TUI is understood to have moved some clients from a hotel in the north of Tenerife, close to where wildfires continue to burn.

Guests at the Catalonia Punta del Rey hotel in Las Caletillas have posted images of the fire taken from the property on Facebook.

They’ve also posted photos of black ash that has blown from Mount Tiede, about 10 miles to the north, and fallen around the pool area.

While the hotel is well outside the danger zone, and many guests have reported the staff’s sterling efforts to clean up, some TUI clients have requested to move and Travel Gossip has received unconfirmed reports that others have been relocated to hotels in the south of the island.

Firefighters tackling the blaze are understood to be receiving hospitality at the hotel, where the situation is said to have improved.

In the latest update, President of the Cabildo de Tenerife Rosa Davila said the fire had been moved away from residential areas, but the quality of the air in the municipalities surrounding the fire was ‘very worrying’.

Travel Gossip has approached TUI for a comment.
