TUI has apologised to customers after being forced to delay a flight for more than two days due to a faulty aircraft.

TOM193 flight from Cancun to Manchester had originally been due to depart on Monday.

The departure was delayed after the Boeing 787-900 developed a fault. While this was being repaired, further damage was caused and a new part had to be sent for, said TUI.

The flight had been rescheduled for Tuesday but was again postponed.

TUI said this afternoon that repair work is ongoing.

The operator said 345 customers affected by the delay were taken to all-inclusive hotels.

“Our reps in the airport and hotels have been on board to assist throughout,” added TUI. “We’d like to apologise again for any inconvenience caused; we will be offering all those affected flight delay compensation and a gesture of goodwill.

“The safety and security of our customers and crew remains to be our highest priority.”

The flight is now expected to depart at 23:00 on Wednesday (17 May), with passengers scheduled to arrive in the UK on Thursday.

One travel agent said TUI had failed to update her customers in Cancun on Travel Gossip‘s Facebook group.

The agent wrote: “The clients, ourselves or the tour operator are not getting any notifications [about] what is actually happening.

“As you can imagine the clients are panicking that they will now miss the next flight as no one is telling anyone what is actually happening.”
