TUI’s Chief Strategy Officer Peter Krueger has hinted in an interview where the holiday giant might open its next luxury Mora hotel.
The first Mora all-inclusive hotel opened in Zanzibar in East Africa this year, targeting high-income guests ‘who value experiences over goods’.
The new brand, which aims to offer ‘laid-back, contemporary luxury’ forms part of TUI’s strategy to expand its overall hotel portfolio from 424 to 600 in the medium-term.
When asked in an interview with German trade publication fvw|TravelTalk where the next Mora hotel would be built, Peter said: “There are several possibilities. Possibly Turkey and Cape Verde. Service is very important for this brand. Service people are becoming more and more significant.”
TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel said customers are becoming less interested in choosing a destination than the experiences it offers.
“For 50% of customers, travel is not necessarily linked to a specific destination,” he told fvw|TravelTalk.
“Travellers are increasingly interested in what they experience. For example, they want to know where to go for their next diving experience, where to find a good children’s programme or sports activities.
“Customers want to spend their holidays at a [TUI-owned] Robinson Club, for example, regardless of location – that is the goal. As a brand, Robinson stands for special experiences, from culinary delights to sports and children’s programmes.”
TUI has already developed hotel clusters in both north and west Africa, and Sebastian said these will be expanded.
“One could also develop in northern Europe. Many Nordic countries are now not only a source market but also a destination market,” he added.
