TUI is advising customers flying from Birmingham Airport to arrive three hours ahead of flights to Europe and four hours before a long-haul departure.
It said this should give them ‘plenty of time’ to get through the security queues, which have been an issue since the airport began building a new £60 million security area.
In its online advice, TUI warned that customers arriving any earlier won’t necessarily be allowed to check in and pass through security early.
TUI also offers a day-before bag drop service for customers flying before noon, which is available on flights to all destinations except the US.
Social media posts in recent days have shown long queues of passengers waiting outside the airport to process through security. However, the airport’s CEO Nick Barton told Travel Gossip it is planning to introduce a new pre-screening facility to reduce the waiting time.
Earlier this month, Birmingham became one of the first in the UK to install new 3D security scanners, but it hasn’t been able to use them to their full potential due to Government imposed restrictions.
