TUI Group is to add two new Robinson Club hotels as part of plans to expand its reach in Africa.
The properties, on Zanzibar (pictured) and Boa Vista in Cape Verde, will open within two to three years, a TUI spokesperson told Travel Gossip. CEO Sebastian Ebel said: “The decisions have been made, the architects and designers are working. Construction will begin shortly.”
The new hotels are part of wider plans by TUI to expand its portfolio in Africa, including new openings in Senegal, the Gambia, Zanzibar and Kenya. TUI also wants to expand its hotel business in Cape Verde ‘in the coming years’, beyond Boa Vista and Sal, the two islands it currently features
The announcement follows the official opening last week of the first hotel in the new TUI brand The Mora in Zanzibar. It is the fourth TUI hotel on the island.
Sebastian said: “Africa has great potential: culturally, scenically and economically.
“Demographically, we are encountering a young, dynamic society, which is a decisive advantage for a service industry. We are already represented on the west coast with Cape Verde and Senegal, and in the north with Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
“Now another African cluster is being created on the east coast on the Indian Ocean. We are taking a holistic approach – environmental, social and economic sustainability are at the heart of our strategy when developing new destinations.
“TUI is a developer, investor and operator. We are one of the leading international hotel companies in the leisure hotel industry and are able to build and develop new holiday destinations.”
Robinson Club hotels have a focus on staying active, with gourmet dining, unlimited activities and beachfront settings.
