An airline used by new UK tour operator Holiday Best has been banned from flying to, from and over European Union states.
A Turkish news outlet said the EU had followed Finland in banning Southwind Airlines, due to a belief that it is ‘effectively controlled by Russians’.
The airline, based in Antalya in Turkey, had been chartered by Holiday Best to fly from nine UK airports to both Antalya and Dalaman.
Holiday Best Chief Marketing Officer John Milburn said: “As a result of the ban from the EU, we have amended affected customers to alternative flights with our other partner airlines.”
Southwind launched in 2022, initially to provide flights to and from Russia when established Turkish carriers dropped their services.
Finland first denied Southwind entry to its airspace on 25 March, citing the airline’s effective control from Russia, which contradicts EU Sanctions Regulations. The ban was extended by the EU to all its members on 28 March, according to Turkish publication Turizm Guncel.
