Union bosses have threatened ‘mayhem’ in May after announcing plans to hold fresh strikes next month.
Strike action at Heathrow Airport is planned by Unite on 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10 May and then again on 25, 26, and 27 May in a row over pay.
The walk-outs are set to clash with the King’s coronation and the late May bank holiday.
Unite said the strikes would ’cause inevitable disruption and delays’ at Heathrow and labelled them ‘May mayhem’ in a statement.
General Secretary Sharon Graham said: “This dispute is bound to escalate with more workers being balloted and disruption set to continue throughout the summer.”
However, Heathrow Airport said: “We will not let Unite disrupt the flow of visitors to the UK during such an important period for the country.”
It said it ‘kept Heathrow running smoothly during the first 10 days of Unite’s ‘failed’ industrial action’ and promised to do so again. However, the previous strike did lead to some flight cancellations.
The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) said its members in all Passport Offices will walk out for four days at the beginning of May.
Almost 2,000 PCS members working as passport examiners in Belfast, Durham, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Newport, Peterborough and Southport have been on strike since 3 April in the union’s dispute over pay, pensions, redundancy terms and jobs.
They will be joined by 1,000 workers in non-examination roles from 2 to 6 May.
PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka said: “At every stage of this dispute we have warned we will escalate action if our demands are not met.”
