A Japan Airlines plane with 367 passengers on board burst into flames as it landed at Tokyo’s Haneda airport, apparently following a collision with another aircraft.

The airline said it believes JAL flight 516 was hit by another plane, possibly operated by Japan’s Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard said it was investigating the incident and that five of its crew members were missing. The pilot evacuated safely, it said.

TV shootage shows the left side of the JAL plane, which had flown from Hokkaido in Japan, was on fire as it landed at Haneda airport.

Local station NHK TV has reported that all JAL passengers were safely evacuated.

Most arrivals for the rest of today have been cancelled.

The incident happened as Japan tries to recover from a huge earthquake on New Year’s Day, which has left at least 48 people dead.
