An investigation has been launched into a cable car accident close to the southern Turkish town of Antalya, which killed one person and injured 10 others.
Passengers fell to the ground after a cabin collided with a broken pole and burst open, while others were left stranded, some for almost 24 hours.
The accident happened on Friday evening, at the end of a three-day Eid al Fitr public holiday in Turkey, when the coastal town was full of families.
A total of 128 passengers were rescued by emergency services from 16 cable cars on Friday, but 43 others were left stranded overnight, before being airlifted on Saturday.
The cable car, pictured above, is run by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and travels from Konyaalti beach to a viewing platform at the summit of Tunektepe, some 2,000 feet above sea level.
The cable car journey normally takes around nine minutes, with six people in each cabin.
The governor’s office said the deceased was Memis Gumus, a 54-year old Turkish man. The injured were six Turkish citizens and one Kyrgyz national. They included two children.
An investigation has been launched by the Antalya prosecutor’s office to determine the cause of the crash.
