Viking has ordered two new ships to be built by Italian shipyard Fincantieri and delivered in 2028 and 2029.

The contracts are reported to be worth between US$500 million and $1.07 billion.

Each ship will have 499 cabins, carrying up to 998 passengers.

“These ships will be based on the successful design characteristics of previous collaborations between Fincantieri and Viking,” the ship builder said.

“The agreement underscores the robust recovery of the cruise market, evidenced by the return of passenger volumes to pre-pandemic levels.”

Viking currently has 11 ocean ships in service, with a 12th – Viking Vesta – due to join the fleet in the middle of next year.
