Virgin Atlantic has tightened up its Heathrow Clubhouse access rules, meaning fewer people will be able to use the airport lounge.

The carrier published a revised list of access rules for the Clubhouse at Heathrow Terminal 3 after it became a member of the SkyTeam Alliance in March.

After joining the alliance, Virgin Atlantic became partners with Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM. The airline describes the Clubhouse as ‘a five-star hotel’ with amenities and ‘a relaxed atmosphere’.

Virgin Atlantic has now changed the list of passengers who can access the airport lounge, following customer feedback.

The Heads for Points website reports Delta SkyMiles Diamond or Platinum Medallion passengers flying on a Virgin Atlantic or Delta flight in economy, and Air France or KLM Flying Blue Platinum passengers travelling on a Virgin or Delta economy flight have now lost access to the lounge.

Access has also been removed for SkyTeam Elite Plus members flying on Virgin, Delta or Aeromexico flights in economy or premium economy.

The following non-SkyTeam elites have also lost access unless flying in business class:

  • Virgin Australia Velocity Club Gold, Platinum and The Club members flying Virgin Atlantic.
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold, Solitaire PPS Club and PPS Club members flying Virgin Atlantic.
  • Air New Zealand Gold or Elite members flying on Virgin Atlantic to San Francisco.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson confirmed changes to the list of entry requirements were made on 13 June, but said some passengers who have been denied access to the Clubhouse would be able to use the Club Aspire Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3.

The spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer Delta Air Lines Diamond and Platinum cardholders who are travelling economy and eligible SkyTeam Elite Plus customers entry to the Club Aspire Lounge, which is just a short walk away from the Clubhouse.

“We’re excited to work with the Club Aspire team to ensure we bring a great experience to our customers and partners.”
