Virgin Voyages was forced to delay the departure of Scarlet Lady’s latest cruise by more than six hours after the 2,770-passenger ship crashed into a mooring dolphin at PortMiami.

Man-made Mooring dolphins extend above water level and host navigation aids for ships.

Photos posted on social media show a dent in the ship’s hull on the starboard aft side, just above the waterline.

Apparently Scarlet Lady got a bit of a scrape yesterday in Miami. Some friends said their departure was delayed but they got underway last night. #cruise #VirginVoyages pic.twitter.com/evctNmkl9u

Following repairs, the ship was cleared to sail by the US Coast Guard at 12:30am on Monday (17 July) six and a half hours after the scheduled departure time on Sunday.

A Virgin Voyages spokesperson told USA Today the ship had ‘experienced some strong currents’ before the incident.

“Repair crews were onsite with fixes completed prior to Scarlet Lady’s next voyage,” the spokesperson added.

The line confirmed all passengers and crew were safe following the crash.

Scarlet Lady had just returned from a four-night cruise to Key West and Bimini Island in the Bahamas when the collision happened.

The ship is currently sailing a round-trip five-night cruise, with stops in Cozumel, Mexico, and Bimini.
