Home to a thriving country music scene, top-rated wine and cultural festivals, Lubbock has something for everyone.

Located in the heart of West Texas and around five hours’ drive from Dallas, it prides itself on being a young and vibrant place, largely due to the fact it is a big university city.

Visitors can explore the open space and trails of Lubbock’s High Plains, enjoy the buzz of downtown life and catch a live show almost every night of the week.

Find out why Lubbock’s charm will entice your clients.

Music at its heart

From country to opera music, you’ll find the sounds of West Texas around every corner.

Known as the birthplace of Buddy Holly, visitors can head to the Buddy Holly Center to view memorabilia and learn about the life and music of the rock ’n’ roll legend.

Music venues include the Blue Light Live, a mecca for up-and-coming songwriters looking to make their mark.

Today, many of Lubbock’s renowned artists are bringing their Texan style to the UK. Country band Flatland Calvary hail from the city and are currently touring the UK with dates in Brighton, London, Bristol and Manchester.

Formed in 2012, the band is made up of vocalist Cleto Cordero, drummer Jason Albers, bassist Jonathan Saenz, guitarist Reid Dillon, fiddle player Wesley Hall and utility instrumentalist Adam Gallegos.

A highlight on the UK tour for Flatland Calvary is performing on the main stage at the Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, which takes place 23-25 August – and Visit Lubbock is giving away a pair of VIP weekend tickets to one lucky agent.

Read on to find out how to win.

A paradise for food and wine

Something you may not know is that Texas is the fifth largest producer of wine in the US, with Lubbock growing 85% of the state’s wine grapes.

This means there is a plethora of quality wineries to visit, including the Llano Estacado Winery, the second oldest in Texas.

It’s not just the wine scene that may appeal to clients – Texas food needs little introduction.

Lubbock’s West Texas cuisine spans everything from BBQ feasts to Mexican grills. There are a variety of eateries including Cooks Garage, a retro car and beer-themed venue, which of course offers live music too!

Cultural experiences

Lubbock is home to the first cultural arts district in Texas.

One of the highlights for visitors is the First Friday Art Trail, which is run in conjunction with The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts.

Perfect for viewing local art, the self-guided tour features a variety of art centres, museums and galleries. Plus, there are food trucks and live music along the trail.

In downtown Lubbock, visitors can check out a Frida Kahlo mural, which graces the side of the Grey Edges Gallery.

Win tickets to see Flatland Cavalry

To celebrate the UK arrival of one of Lubbock’s finest bands, Flatland Cavalry, Visit Lubbock is giving away a pair of VIP weekend tickets to this year’s popular Long Road Festival at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire, where the band will perform on the main stage on the Sunday (25 August).

The prize include weekend access to the festival, views of the mainstage arena, VIP premium seating and amenities, and VIP bar access.
