As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, it's an opportunity to reflect on the innovative ways we can attract talent into our industry.

Many of our members have been showing the value apprenticeships can bring, not only for school or college leavers but for individuals at later stages in their careers, and it’s been a theme of ABTA’s social media work, too. Apprentices can learn while they earn, and provide valuable support and insights to people already working in travel.

However, while travel and many other sectors focus on apprenticeships this week, the race for talent goes well beyond this.

In particular, at ABTA we are proud of our links with our Education Partners, including colleges, universities, and training providers. A large part of our collaboration with universities is the student representatives initiative, which creates opportunities for students to engage with ABTA members. This involves a mentoring programme and enables students to gain real-world insights into our industry. We currently have a mentor opportunity with a student studying at Sheffield Hallam University. Please contact Vicki Wolf, our Head of Education and Career Development if you’re interested.

Additionally, ABTA’s Summer Internship Programme will this year be welcoming two students, who are studying travel and tourism degrees at our Education Partner universities. The successful candidates will join us for an eight-week internship in our communications and legal departments. It is a privilege to offer these students the opportunity to develop their skills and build a strong foundation for their future careers.

For further details on how ABTA is supporting members in attracting talent to the travel sector, visit our Education and Career Development page here.
