None of us can predict what the future holds, and there may well be a time in all of our lives when we need a helping hand. There is no shame in this, and ABTA LifeLine was set up to provide that assistance. We are the only charity which supports past and present travel professionals and their families, both those currently working for an ABTA Member as well as those who have in the past.
We give out financial awards to help people who, through no fault of their own, are suffering financial hardship. This can be caused by life-changing medical conditions, bereavement, disability, relationship breakdown, and whatever else life brings. Our support is tailored to the individual and their family. Nothing is too big or too small for us to consider. From day-to-day essential costs, mobility aids, furniture, and household expenses, to funeral costs, naming just some of the areas where we have provided help.
We also provide a debt, benefit, and budgeting service through our partner Citizens Advice (Manchester), which has resulted in people saving thousands of pounds. Financial hardship and life-changing events can also have a considerable impact on your mental health, and we offer counselling support through The Centre for Crisis Psychology (CCP).
But we need your help in reaching people who need this support. We want to make sure that all employees and those who no longer work in the industry know there is help available. We need HR professionals, internal comms teams, welfare managers, occupational health teams, and mental health first aiders to spread the word. Display information in your retail shops, staff rooms, intranet, and staff benefit forums. But everyone has a role to play here, we all know ex colleagues who obviously will not see communications like this. Let them know about LifeLine.
Applicants can have spent any time in the industry, working in any role. We can also offer support for dependents such as children or partners. Even with the great support of their employer, people can still face hardship and other challenges. LifeLine provides a safe space, a place to talk with no judgement where everything is treated in the strictest confidence.
We rely solely on funds from the travel industry. So please, all ABTA members and partners, get on board. Support our £2 per employee appeal by simply donating £2 for every employee you have on an annual basis, and look at any other way of raising funds for LifeLine to help us continue our much-needed work.
