A highly-valued benefit of ABTA membership is our engagement with Government officials and parliamentarians on behalf of members.
As we approach parliament’s summer recess, it’s worth taking stock of the breadth of ABTA’s public affairs work over recent months.
This week, the Government shared its Accessibility Task and Finish Group Report, which investigated how the travel industry can make every traveller’s experience accessible and inclusive. ABTA has played an active role in the taskforce, which produced the report’s findings and recommendations.
We are keenly aware there’s always more that can be done to ensure travel is accessible to all and we shall be sharing the taskforce’s recommendations with our members. ABTA will now have a role in the new Taskforce implementation group and will continue with our other accessibility work, which covers the whole customer journey, from marketing and booking a trip through to what happens in destination.
One other highly important issue for travel is the UK’s relationship with the European Union. As the UK aims to secure new agreements with the EU, ABTA is engaging with policymakers on how the government can remove trade barriers to help travel companies operate more efficiently.
We have also been identifying opportunities to engage with parliament and Government departments through policy consultations and parliamentary inquiries, using them to push ABTA’s asks. We also continue to obtain meetings with government officials and MPs on the UK-EU reset to discuss how to achieve positive agreements on issues such as youth mobility schemes, EES and competitiveness.
We are committed to working closely with government and parliamentarians from across the political spectrum to help the UK travel industry flourish, support members to grow their businesses and help all holidaymakers travel with confidence.
