We all know that the travel industry offers a vibrant and rewarding career path, and attracting and retaining talent is crucial for a successful future. At ABTA, we work with you – our members – and college and university partners, to promote the exciting variety of careers in the travel industry to our future leaders.
We’ve recently partnered with Travel Weekly again on their careers guide ‘Take Off in Travel’, which is aimed at encouraging and guiding those eager to work within our sector and is used by colleges, universities, and our members across the country.
It’s also crucial for us to have regular contact with students during their studies to offer support and inspiration about travel. We’ve set up an initiative inviting each of our Education Partners to put forward an ‘ABTA Regional Student Representative’ with a passion for travel and tourism. Each Regional Student Representative has regular contact with ABTA’s Head Office team and is partnered with an ABTA member or Partner for mentoring sessions. This allows them to gain valuable insight into the inner workings of the industry as well as act as a conduit between their college or university and travel businesses. New businesses are signing up to the mentoring programme on a regular basis, and we are delighted that TUI and the Malta Tourism Authority have recently joined.
In addition, for the past few years, we have offered a Summer Internship programme at ABTA, and we are just about to launch the search for two new interns for two-month placements in 2026 – offering the opportunity to learn and develop skills while being surrounded by our team of experts.
If you are looking to offer work experience or placements for young people within your organisation, or would like to be involved with the ABTA Regional Student Representative programme in the form of mentoring, please contact our Head of Education, Vicki Wolf on vwolf@abta.co.uk.
