Heathrow Airport recorded 63.1 million passengers in the first nine months of 2024, up from 59.4m in the previous year.

Between June and September, the airport recorded 30.7m passengers, with its busiest departures day in history on 24 July, when 142,800 passengers flew out, and its busiest arrivals day on 2 September, when 140,500 people arrived.

The airport has raised its 2024 forecast to 83.8m passengers, up from 82.8m.

Revenue fell by 3.2%, but Heathrow achieved an adjusted pre-tax profit of £350m, compared to an adjusted pre-tax loss of £19m last year.

CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “This summer has tested our colleagues, infrastructure and airlines to cooperate harder than ever before, with record numbers of passengers travelling through the busiest two runway airport in the world.

“We have risen to this challenge, delivering excellent service with over 91% of passengers waiting at security for less than five minutes.

“Looking forwards, the Autumn Budget is a prime opportunity to set the aviation industry up for long term success. Backing British SAF through a revenue certainty mechanism and committing to joined up policy making that makes sense for aviation will supercharge Heathrow’s potential to deliver growth and investment for the whole of the country.”
