PK - Dream Vacations

My name is Patrick, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this online community.
I'm a new owner of a Dream Vacations franchise that I purchased at the beginning of this year. I wasn't able to spend any time developing my business because I was working 10-12 hours a day at my AT&T sales manager job. I just retired and now I'm finally able to give my business the time it deserves. In my past experience I was a manager for America West Airlines at the John Wayne airport for 13 years. My intention is to marry my travel industry experience with my 25 years of sales experience to form my travel advisor business. I really don't know where to start, or how to start getting clients and I could really use some help and advice. I joined this community because I think that people are always 'better together' and I would like to learn best practices and share the things that work for me as well. I know that most people start with booking trips for friends, and I've done that and kind of exhausted that avenue and now I need to start to move into the general public and don't know the most effective way to do so, and I could use some advice. Thanks in advance for any support and help so that I can launch my business as quickly and effectively as possible.

Hi Patrick,

Welcome to the community! It’s inspiring to see how you’re channelling your extensive experience in both the travel industry and sales into building your Dream Vacations franchise. Transitioning from a high-demand corporate role to entrepreneurship is a big step, and it’s clear you’re bringing a lot of valuable skills to the table.

Since you’ve already tapped into your personal network, moving into the general public is a great next step. Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

  1. Leverage Local Events: Attend or sponsor local community events to get your name out there. Consider hosting a travel-themed event or presentation to showcase your expertise.
  2. Optimize Your Online Presence: Ensure your website and social media platforms reflect your brand and highlight your unique value. Share travel tips, destination inspiration, and special deals to attract potential clients.
  3. Partner with Local Businesses: Collaborate with complementary businesses like wedding planners, real estate agents, or gyms to create mutually beneficial referrals. For example, honeymoon packages or wellness retreats could align well with their client needs.
  4. Niche Marketing: Focus on a specific travel niche (e.g., luxury cruises, family vacations, adventure travel) to become a go-to expert in that area. It will help you stand out in a competitive market.
  5. Engage with Groups: Join or create local or online travel interest groups where you can share your expertise and build relationships naturally.
  6. Ask for Referrals: Even if you’ve booked trips for friends, don’t hesitate to ask them to refer others who may benefit from your services. A referral incentive could encourage them to spread the word.
  7. Follow Up and Build Relationships: Consistent follow-up and personalized communication go a long way in turning potential leads into loyal clients.
It’s great to see your enthusiasm for collaboration and learning. This community is a fantastic resource for sharing ideas and gaining support. Feel free to ask questions or share your progress—everyone benefits when we help each other succeed!

Wishing you the best as you take this exciting next step in your journey!
