A homeworking group that launched two years ago with the offer of high rates of commission for travel agents is being wound down.

Travel Safe was launched in July 2022 by former Sunvil Operations Manager Brett Gerrett as a member of Protected Trust Services (PTS). It also has its own ATOL, for 1,000 passengers.

At the time, Brett said Travel Safe would give agents more freedom to manage their own businesses and they’d receive ‘up to’ 90% of commission earned. Plus, he was offering 24/7 support for their customers, something not available from all other home working agencies. Mark Sutton, who was Managing Director of PTS, described Travel Safe as ‘a forward thinking and dynamic solution’.

However, PTS has advised suppliers to put the West Yorkshire-based group on stop sale this week and Brett told Travel Gossip he’s no longer taking bookings.

“I am winding down the business,” he said. “I am not taking any more bookings, but I am managing existing bookings into 2026.”

At one time, Travel Safe had around 10 homeworkers, but Brett said they had all defected to other groups, with the last one leaving the company in June.

“They went to companies with better technology, better systems,” he said. “There are much better solutions out there for homeworkers than we were offering.

“We were offering 80% commission, but there are other groups offering 60% with better systems, better marking and better growth opportunities for agents. We opened at a time when other contenders in the market had a lot more investment than us.”

Brett also opened a Travel Safe store, in Horbury, West Yorkshire, 18 months ago with his partner, Sophie Davis, also a former Sunvil employee. “The shop is a separate entity, and I am currently exploring my options for this,” he added.
