Former SuperBreak national sales manager Graham Balmforth has revealed some new tricks he’s picked up since retiring five years ago.

On Thursday (13 April), the popular travel industry figure posted on Twitter an eye-catching 47-second performance, where his thumbs appeared to light up.

Alongside the video, he wrote: “In business one needs to keep learning new skills to advance your career. Similarly in retirement, new techniques are required to entertain one’s grandchildren.”

Following his retirement, Graham has often leapt back into the limelight, particularly for the benefit of his grandchildren – nine-year-old Erin and six-year-old Grace.

Last month, he changed the lyrics to Johnny Cash’s classic tune ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ to ‘Covid Prison Blues’ while playing a ukulele and posted the footage on Twitter.

Former attendees of Advantage Travel conferences will have fond memories of Graham and the late SuperBreak Sales Director Ian Mounser performing in costume at the legendary ‘dine-around’ events each year.

Graham told Travel Gossip: “They were hugely popular events. We would take over restaurants with 70 or 80 agents there. Over the years we dressed up as the ladies from Absolutely Fabulous, The Supremes, and Harry Enfield’s characters Kevin and Perry.”

Speaking about his latest video, he said: “The six-year-old was mesmerised but the nine-year-old said ‘you’ve got something on the end of your fingers’.”

The video has already been viewed hundreds of times by Graham’s Twitter followers.

Graham’s electric performance to entertain his grandchildren

Asked whether he missed the travel industry, Graham said: “Retirement is fantastic, but I do miss the craic of the travel industry.”

Graham said he fills his days visiting his dad in a nursing home and entertaining Erin and Grace.

He added that he plans to go fishing with his son in June and still enjoys travelling, but insisted he doesn’t miss ‘ploughing through sales data and board papers’ one bit.
