Latin Routes has expanded its trade sales team, with four new members joining in the last six months alone. Here Rob, Giuliano, Alex and Megan share some of their favourite things in South America, plus some top selling tips for agents.

Rob Jacobs – Sales Team Manager

Which is your favourite spot in South America?

Tortuguero in Costa Rica. From the moment you get on the boat to head down the lush green rivers, you are surrounded by the sights and noises that you come to expect in the jungle. A small village, only accessible by boat or plane, it is decorated with individually-coloured homes and sits both on the beach and in the rainforest. Nesting turtles, flying toucans and even a few manatees made this an unforgettable place for me!

What is the best taste in South America?

It’s a bit of cliché but nothing beats an icy Caipirinha on the beaches of Brazil, which is as good as it sounds, and the steak in Argentina beats anything I have eaten anywhere else in the world.

Your top selling tip for agents?

Photos and videos sell, so when chatting to the customer hop onto our website and browse through all the images, videos, and itineraries we have. Nothing gets the customer more excited than seeing the destinations and envisioning themselves doing exactly what you are talking about!

Which is your favourite spot in South America?

Torres del Paine. Besides having the highest concentration of pumas, it has the most beautiful mountains, lakes, and glaciers I ever saw. The high-speed winds form clouds in lenticular shapes over the mountains, adding the perfect touch for breathtaking sunsets after a day hiking through this wild landscape.

What is the best taste in South America?

Black beans over rice with a hearty salad, vinaigrette and hot sauce! For dessert, a bowl of chilled jabuticabas (tree grape) and I am a happy man!

Your top selling tip for agents?

Add something to the holiday to surprise your client, for example if they love adventure add ziplining in the Costa Rican jungle! It might not be something they have asked for but with such a wide range of things to do in Latin America, you will be sure to find something to WOW them and it will make you stand out from the rest!

What’s your favourite spot in South America?

My favourite destination in South America has to be Colombia. The amazing food, music and people all contribute to an incredibly diverse culture that makes Colombia unique.

What is the best taste in South America?

It has to be arepas, which come from Colombia and Venezuela and are a must when trying local street food. Whereas my drink of choice would just be the locally-brewed beer, of which my favourite has to be ‘Original’ from Brazil.

Your top selling tip for agents?

Zoom calls or ‘live presents’ to the clients can help give a more personal touch and persuade them to trust that we are providing them with the best service possible. A bit of research online or on YouTube can also go a long way in gaining a bit of extra knowledge about the destinations.

Megan Burholt – Travel Specialist

What’s your favourite spot in South America?

It changes every day, but at the moment it’s Colombia! It has a bit of everything. I love the vibrant Caribbean culture in Cartagena and the rich history and incredible nightlife in Medellin. My favourite place in Colombia is probably Minca, it’s a beautiful town surrounded by jungle. There are lots of opportunities for hiking, visiting waterfalls and exploring coffee plantations. The beaches in Tayrona National Park are also a must see!

What is the best taste in South America?

Gallo Pinto (rice and beans!). It sounds basic but they were always so flavourful and go really well with arepas and eggs. I could eat this every day!

Your top selling tip for agents?

Make sure to thoroughly understand your clients’ needs and interests so that we can organise the perfect itinerary for them!
