A really important part of ABTA’s role is providing clear information and reliable advice so people can travel with confidence. Since the UK left the EU, the change in passport validity rules for travel to the Schengen area has caused some confusion, and this week we’ve started another comms push to raise awareness of the changes ahead of the Easter holidays.

On the media front, we’ve been speaking with national, broadcast and consumer media to make sure they’re clear on the requirements that people need to be aware of and which countries and territories the rules apply to, so they can help spread the word. You can see the press release we’ve issued on this here.

On our social media channels, we’ve distilled the essential information into a four-step guide to help people check that their passport will be valid for their travel dates, which you can download from our Marketing Toolkit and share across your own channels. We have some additional materials in the pipeline which are due to go live next week.

For the most comprehensive guidance, we have our dedicated webpage abta.com/passports. If you’d like to make sure you’re clear on the rules or signpost your customers to some reliable advice, it’s a great resource that sets out all the information people need to know, along with tips on how to renew if needed. We check the page regularly to make sure the information remains up to date.

ABTA’s annual Travel Confidence Index shows that most people see having the correct documents as vital in giving them confidence to travel. With some still confused about this change a few years after its introduction, we hope our latest campaign will help bring clarity.
