Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’Leary said he expects the airline’s fares will be 5% to 10% higher this summer compared to 2023.
He said a delay in the delivery of new Boeing aircraft means the airline will have less capacity, which will push up prices.
Ryanair was originally expecting to carry 205 million passengers for the year to the end of March 2025, up from 183.5 million in the previous 12 months.
However, the CEO told reporters in Dublin this week: “With less aircraft, maybe we’ll have to bring that 205 million down towards 200 million passengers.
“It might be a scratch below 200 million, we just don’t know at this stage.
Ryanair’s average fares last summer were up 17%. “We don’t think we’ll see that kind of double-digit fare increase this year,” said Michael. “We’re doing our budgets based on a fare increase of five to 10%, which to me feels kind of reasonable.
“It could be higher than that, it could be lower than that, we don’t really know.
“If capacity was growing, I think fares would be falling.”
Ryanair has order 57 new aircraft to be delivered by the end of March next year, but it expects to only receive 40 to 45 by then.
