Birmingham Airport has reopened after all operations and flights were suspended earlier this afternoon due to an incident on-site.

The airport confirmed the police investigation had concluded at 3:35pm and departing passengers were able to return to the terminal with operations ‘slowly’ returning to normal.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “Following a Police investigation, some passengers were evacuated and we had to suspend departing flights for a couple of hours. That investigation has now concluded, and operations will slowly be returning to normal. All passengers are advised to check latest flight information from their airline.

“Whilst we apologise for any inconvenience and disruption, the safety and security of everyone at the airport was our number one priority as we worked through this incident with Police partners.”

Flights due to depart this afternoon include Ryanair flights to Tenerife and Madrid, TUI flights to Sharm el Sheikh and Fuerteventura, a SunExpress service to Antalya, an Emirates flight to Dubai and a Qatar flight to Doha. There are currently no cancellations but a number of departures have delays of at least one hour, according to Flight Radar.

The airport terminal was evacuated at around 1:30pm this afternoon after West Midlands police received reports of a ‘suspicious vehicle’.

It said the evacuation is a ‘precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff’.

Passengers who recently landed at the airport, including those on a Jet2 flight from Palma and a SunExpress flight from Antalya, are understood to be held on the aircraft on the ground. Flights due to land in the next hour include Jet2 services from Mahon, Malaga Fuerteventura and Faro, Ryanair flights from Rhodes and Murcia, and an easyJet flight from Amsterdam.
