We’ve recently published new guidance for members and your suppliers on the distribution and disposal of holiday brochures. It follows concerns raised by ABTA’s Council of Regions about the waste created by brochures.
We know from our own research that people still value holiday brochures; 27% of people say they use them as a source of inspiration. Members also report they remain an important sales tool – but they can be challenging from a waste management perspective.
The new best practice guidance was developed based on feedback from the Council of Regions, as well as discussions with ABTA’s Sustainability Committee – which includes representatives from tour operators, travel agents and cruise. We also spoke with distribution companies.
The guidance includes recommendations to reduce brochure waste and manage distribution effectively, as well as a checklist. Members can access the guidance in the ABTA Member Zone.
As well as a helpful resource for members and suppliers, the new guidance is also a good example of the valuable role of the Council of Regions in providing feedback.
As a reminder, ABTA’s Council of Regions comprises representatives from travel companies in each of the nations and regions. It’s an important forum for us to gather insight from members, so please do engage with your local chair, including on issues affecting your businesses. You can see the list of representatives here.
