A big part of what we do at ABTA is working with UK and destination governments, industry stakeholders, charities and colleagues across the travel industry to support and provide our members with the best possible service.

This week, we attended the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) summer Travel Aware partner event briefing, a small part of the longstanding and close relationship we have with the FCDO to ensure we always have the latest information and advice to share. We frequently meet with FCDO colleagues such as the consular prevention, travel advice, crisis and 24-hour Global Response teams so that we can be prepared for any unexpected events or crisis situations. When a crisis occurs, we work with the FCDO to provide the latest updates so you can keep your customers informed, giving peace of mind to those in destination, and their families at home.

Sharing feedback, insights and guidance and being a voice for our members within the industry is crucial to us and helps add value to your business. Our ABTA Destination resort committees are unique in the industry and encourage the flow of information between members, UK consular teams and local authorities and support local collaboration to address matters locally that affect tourism.

Regular meetings with tourism boards, destination governments and other stakeholders provide the platform for us to share information and guidance, such as the ABTA Accommodation Health and Safety technical guide to support members businesses, travellers and local people. Working with UN Tourism (formerly UNWTO) and ECCTA means that we’re always at the forefront of what’s happening in destinations. Coupled with the work we do with our health colleagues UKHSA and TravelHealthPro, we are able to share the most up to date information via our Operational Bulletins, providing you with important updates to pass on to your customers.

As well as the FCDO, for the last ten years we’ve had a great partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS). The purpose of working together is to raise awareness of water safety amongst UK holidaymakers. We share their marketing campaigns on our social media channels and provide our members with access to marketing toolkits to download and use, all to help reduce the number of accidental drownings and water-based injuries. This year, as with every year, we’ll be working with the RLSS during Drowning Prevention Week to educate holidaymakers on how to stay safe in the water whilst on holiday.

We’re always looking for new ways to collaborate and connect our colleagues across travel and thank you for your support in helping us to do so.
